What is a chargeback?
In the most basic terms, it’s the reversal of a credit card payment.
Ways to avoid chargebacks:
- When a booking comes through an OTA (such as Booking.com or Expedia) it is important to cross-check the name on the card with the name of the guest.
- In the event the cardholder's OTA account was hacked, and they dispute the charge, you as a hotelier will be liable to pay the money back unless you take necessary precautions.
- In the event these names do not match, please make sure to verify the cardholder, and request written confirmation from the cardholder that they approve you to charge their card.
